| Andres Carvallo Vice Presidente Executivo e CSO, Proximetry; Co-autor do livro "The Advanced Smart Grid" Carvallo is a "smart grid" pioneer, defining the term on March 5, 2004 at Austin Energy and building the first smart grid in the United States while at Austin Energy by 2009. Carvallo joined Austin Energy in February of 2003 as Chief Information Officer to lead a technological transformation that started with a smart metering project, and the deployment of an enterprise architecture and customer portals for one third of Austin Energy's customers. After reading EPRI's Intelligrid whitepaper and IBM's Intelligent Utility Network whitepaper in late 2003, Carvallo decided to use the free term "smart grid" to define the effort at Austin Energy for making the utility grid, buildings, homes, electric vehicles all one integrated grid managing two-way power and data flows. |

| 13:50 – 14:30 | PANEL: Who is Liable for Security? |
Moderator: Security is an exercise in interdependency analytics, both in terms of an individual utility as well as the interconnected grid as a whole. There are many potential entry points into a system and you're only as strong as your weakest link. As you buy new hardware, is it your responsibility to verify its security or is the vendor responsible for building security into the product as well as providing periodic security updates and patches? Who is certifying the security of the product and what is the current standard? This session will discuss whether your company's internal security strategy can minimize risk from interconnection with other parts of the grid that may not be quite as secure as yours and help you plan the appropriate security strategy. Marcos da Silva Rabello - Coordenador Projetos Segurança Cibernética - CEMIG Rick Geiger - Executive Director, Utilities & Smart Grid - CISCO |
| 14:30 – 15:15 | PANEL: Technologies that are Transforming the Grid |
Moderator: Ronaldo Collecta Santarem - Furnas Distributed generation brings a variety of factors to consider: its intermittency, cost, location of sources and the impact on distribution networks deserve special attention from energy companies. On the other hand, synchrophasors present themselves as powerful tools for real-time support in maintaining the quality of transmission and distribution. The current time the control and protection equipments are monitored once every four seconds, on the other hand, a typical solution with synchrophasors require 30 observations per second. This increased monitoring capability coupled with the fact that synchrophasor can be in sync even when different companies use it as powerful predictive technology for the security of networks. Finally, this technology allows a full view of the "grid" in a precise and comprehensive way, indeed necessary in the management of a network with distributed generation. This session will give an overview of the application of distributed generation in the networks of utility companies and how the use of synchrophasor (or other modern monitoring equipment) may help in maintaining the quality required by regulators, its impact on telecommunications networks and its current stage of implementation in Latin America, United States and the rest of the world. Saulo José Nascimento Cisneiros - Assistant Dir. Planning and Scheduling - ONS Scott Davis - VP of Sales for the Government & Enterprise - Symmetricom Alexandre Jann - Div. Estratégia e Marketing - NEC Latin America S.A |

| 16:05 - 16:50 | PANEL: Outsourcing Telecom Networks; how utilities will comply with new requirements for critical telecom needs |
Moderator: Outsourcing or out-tasking is a dynamic that each utility professional has to consider in an effort to meet the growing demands of the organization and managing limited resources. The key to successfully making the decision to out-source a key telecom function is having the right tools to evaluate the options. There are several factors to consider including job loss, partners and business risks to name a few. This session is designed to help highlight the key criteria in evaluating the option to out-task and trends in the utility telecom arena. Caio Bonilha – President - Telebras Vitor Luiz G. |
Moderator: As utility companies deploy smart grid solutions, they are beginning to recognize that their network may not have the capacity to support the massive volume of data generated by smart metering or demand response systems. This session will discuss these challenges and how utilities can overcome them by updating their network and/or outsourcing. Ing. Diego Sánchez - Commercial Manager - Electrica de Guayaquil Daniel Senna - Gestor para Implantação do Projeto Cidades do Futuro - CEMIG Sidney Simonaggio - Vice Presidente - AES Eletropaulo |

Moderator: Everyone knows that TDM components and other legacy equipment are starting to be phased out. Equipment vendors and engineering companies are moving their support to IP technologies. This leaves many relying on fewer employees that can actually repair or troubleshoot the physical units. What is the EXACT cost of maintaining these legacy systems and how do you develop a strategy for these systems in the future? How do you plan for scalability and growth with these systems? What is gained in terms of flexibility, support and efficiency by migrating to new technologies? This session will help you plan a strategy for the migration from legacy to modern systems and explain why this planning needs to happen.
